POACHING IS A CRIME

  • 2021/06/17(Thu) 13:25

Fishery rights have been established along the coast of Ishikawa which allow only those who are recognized as fishermen by the prefectural government or fishery cooperatives to harvest aquatic animals and plants. These include wakame seaweed, sea cucumbers, abalone, sazae, oysters, asari and hamaguri.

A fine of up to 1,000,000 yen will be imposed for any violation, no matter what the purpose. However, the poaching of sea cucumbers and abalone may be subject to imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine of up to 30 million yen.

Poaching is a crime that has a serious impact on fishery production and marine resources. Under no circumstances should you harvest aquatic plants and animals that are subject to fishing rights.
