Outline of IFIE

Ishikawa Foundation for International Exchange (a.k.a. IFIE)
As a central organization to promote international exchanges in Ishikawa Prefecture, IFIE was established in March, 1992 by the Prefecture. IFIE offers international information services and engages in the planning and support of international exchange/international cooperation and a number of other constructive activities, with the aim of creating a bridge between the people of Ishikawa and foreigners.

Aims of Establishment
As a central organization for international exchange activities, IFIE aims at contributing to the promotion of Prefecture’s internationalization with the help of people’s wide participation, by carrying out various types of projects related to international exchange and cooperation, with an emphasis on Ishikawa Prefecture’s unique features.

Voluntary International Exchange ActivitiesVolunteers are invited to help in the following 4 fields: home-stay; translation/interpretation; publication and study abroad-related activities. |
A Window to the WorldPromote education for global understanding by sending non-Japanese lecturers to elementary, junior and senior high schools as well as handicapped children’s schools within Ishikawa. |
International Exchange EventsVarious events are held for the people in Ishikawa to experience the different cultures of the World. |
International Games & Sports for ChildrenIt is possible to have CIRs go over to kindergartens or nursery schools and introduce local games from their native countries and thus give children an opportunity to experience different cultures through games. |
Support Enterprise for Globalization Activities at Grass-root LevelWe offer donations to support events and activities organized by local international exchange groups. |
A Day with CIRsIFIE CIRs also support events and activities organized by other cities, towns and other international exchange associations in the Prefecture. |
Message BoardInformation about international exchange events and for those looking for language exchange partners can be found posted on the message board at the Free Space Salon. |
Foreign Language Classes for International UnderstandingEnglish classes as well as other classes in foreign languages used in the regions that have “Friendship Ties” with Ishikawa Prefecture (Chinese, Korean, Russian and Portuguese) are available at IFIE. |
Japanese Studies Program“JSP” is a program that invites university students from overseas to come to Ishikawa to study Japanese in the mornings and enjoy various Japanese culture related activities in the afternoons, while doing home-stay with a local family. |
Speech ContestSpeech Contests in Japanese are held at IFIE. |
Support for Japanese TeachersThere are two classes available for those who are teaching or interested to teach Japanese to foreigners: the “Japanese Education Basics Seminar” for those who are interested in teaching Japanese; and the “Japanese Education Training Seminar” for those who have experience in the field. |
Publication: “IFIE-PLANET”Published in Japanese, the “IFIE-PLANET” provides information on international exchange such as events and introductions to international exchange organizations in the Prefecture. |

International Exchange LibraryBooks, magazines and newspapers from around the world are available for you to enjoy at the Library. You can also borrow books and magazines to read at your convenience. Internet service is also offered at the facility. |
Japanese ClassesHigh quality Japanese classes designed in accordance with the individual’s proficiency in the language are offered at IFIE. |
Consultation for Study-abroad OverseasConsultation on study-abroad matters such as general information, choosing programs/schools, preparing for the trip, etc. is available at IFIE. We also provide information on working holidays and voluntary activities overseas. |
Publication: “Ishikawa Living Support Map”This multilingual publication provides necessary information about daily living and important contact numbers for foreign nationals living in the Prefecture. Available in English, Chinese, Korean and Portuguese. |
Mailing List for SubscribersUpdated information related to international exchange will be sent via e-mail to subscribers (in Japanese). |
Multilingual Publication: “Ishikawa Express”Published 4 times a year, this publication provides information such as culture of Ishikawa and upcoming events in the Prefecture, etc. in English, Chinese, Korean, Russian and Portuguese. |
Ishikawa Alumni AssociationIshikawa Alumni Association is formed by foreigners who have resided in Ishikawa who have returned to their home countries but still have special feelings towards the Prefecture. Updated information about Ishikawa is sent to members all over the world via e-mail. |
Free Legal Consultation for ForeignersProfessional advice offered by attorneys on a wide range of matters such as concerns at home, at work, or in daily life. This service is available every 3rd Thursdays of the month. Appointments necessary. |
